From the stage
Jean-Baptiste Lully became one of the early figures associated with directing an orchestra as a distinct musical role. Orchestral instruments are commonly grouped into strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Niccolò Paganini performed on a celebrated Guarneri del Gesù violin that later became associated with Genoa.
