How sound changed

Bernard Cousino developed a single-loop magnetic tape cartridge in 1952 for repeated playback in advertising. Cousino's company continued making cartridge systems through the 1960s as prerecorded tape became more practical. A Smithsonian Cousino tape cartridge dates from 1963, when magnetic tape formats were still rapidly evolving.
