Skerryvore

From recording history

Early tinfoil phonographs recorded sound by pressing a needle into foil wrapped around a cylinder. Grooves in the phonograph cylinder helped guide the recording and playback needle along a consistent path. Turning the phonograph crank let the needle retrace its recorded path and reproduce sound mechanically.
